SELF DEFENSE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM:
The program is designed to further promote leadership behaviors in the junior students by creating an environment of learning that stresses self discipline, teamwork, improved self awareness, and academic excellence.
Participation in the program is a privilege and students are nominated by the Chief Instructor in consultation with the student’s parent(s). Parents are encouraged to identify those behaviors in their child that may require additional attention. Areas that will be addressed include but are not limited to the following:
Improved balance
Improved focus
Improved self control
Improved communication skills
Improved socialization skills
Improved self confidence
Improved academic achievement
CRITERIA FOR ENROLLMENT:
- The student must be an Orange Belt or above.
- The student must demonstrate consistent positive behavior inside and outside of the dojo.
- The student must demonstrate potential to succeed in the program and verbalize a willingness to participate.
- The student’s parents must accept the nomination with the appropriate fee.
A one time fee of $60.00 dollars is required to complete enrollment. The fee covers the Black Uniform, Two Skies, Bushido and Leadership patches. The Bushido and leadership patch separates the leadership students from the rest of the class and the participants are expected to set an example that exemplifies leadership.
The Bushido Patch is worn on the upper middle back of the uniform and the leadership patch is worn on the left chest of the uniform, below the Two Skies Patch.
Each student will be awarded the leadership designation in a formal ceremony. The ceremony is conducted to promote the value of positive behavior and to recognize the strength that is required to maintain positive behavior in the face of peer pressure.
